After 35 years of running Ambroplastics, Tom Teichmann is retiring as Managing Director. On Friday 22nd October, the current management team completed an MBO to buy Tom’s controlling share of Ambro. The team, consisting of Paul Kelly, Production Director, Chris Corbett, Sales Manager, Darren Yates, Production Manager and myself, former Sales and Marketing Director, have worked hard to agree a deal that suits all parties, and really sees Ambroplastics in a very strong position to continue as market leader in the Presentation Product industry. Tom will continue to have an active role in the company, concentrating on the financial aspects, which have always been his primary focus, as well as certain special projects, for a period of up to three years, on a part time basis. 35 years is a long time to have been in the driving seat, and Tom’s experience, calm approach, and level head will be missed. However, Tom recognises the need for new blood and a more youthful approach being required to drive the company on. Whilst Tom will be around for some time, there is no question that he will be missed by us all, but there is also a great deal of excitement moving forward. All that remains is to thank Tom for his dedication to Ambro, and leaving the company in such a healthy state, and wish him luck for the future. Ambro have introduced 700 micron opaline (natural frosted) polypropylene as an alternative to the standard 800 micron thickness.
700 micron polyprop has been used by some other manufacturers for some time under the guise of ‘medium weight’. Ambro will now offer 700 micron in an effort to keep prices down during this period of rapidly increasing polymer costs. 700 micron will be a good alternative in many instances where, traditionally, 800 micron was used. Small capacity A4 Ring Binders and Wallets would work well with this reduced thickness, as would all the smaller sizes. 800 micron will of course, remain our standard gauge for standard applications. If you want to know more please ask for samples. It’s well worth trying if it does the job and saves you money. 
Ambroplastics have been selected as finalists of the Shropshire Business Awards 2010, in the Technology, Enterprise and Innovation category, which is a great achievement as the awards were the most competitive ever held. Ambro recognised that it had to develop unique products and capibilities in order to maintain growth in an otherwise stagnant market.
Managing Director, Tom Teichmann, said "We have used traditional folding and gluing technology (used in the packaging industry for the production of cartons,) and adapted our machinery, processes and tools so that folding and gluing technology can be used for presentation products such as wallets and folders. We have also developed our own machinery for thermal welding on to polypropylene in order to adapt this process to volume production." Binders, wallets and folders with welded pockets are now more economical than the outdated method of using self adhesive pockets. And it gets better: Ambro are now producing white, clear frosted and coloured polypropylene presentation binders, with clear pockets for inserting print on front cover and spine.
Recycled Products Ambro have introduced a new range of recycled polypropylene products. The range is marketed under the name ‘Pol-eco’. All pol-eco products are 100% recycled (post industrial) and are carbon neutral. Click here for more information on our recycled products
